Warren Miller’s Chasing Shadows Official Trailer

For the fall of 2015, Warren Miller Entertainment releases Chasing Shadows, the 66th annual winter sports film. Warren Miller once said, “A pair of skis are the ultimate transportation to freedom,” and this year, we’re chasing the world’s biggest names in skiing and snowboarding as they find that very freedom. Explore what it means to be inspired, and what it is about exotic locations and snow-covered summits that keep us searching for more. As skiers and snowboarders we chase a feeling, a memory, a storm, a turn — we’ve been chasing it our whole lives and we’ll keep chasing it a lifetime more.

8-22-2015 – Hazy Smoky Skies… Cancel that taste of Fall!

8-21-2015 – 1 PM – Hello from Mammoth Lakes, unfortunately we have lost our clear blue skies. At this time we have very hazy skies from dissipating smoke from the Rough fire.  The smoke now stretches from south of Ridgecrest all the way up to Reno and beyond. After days of mostly clear skies in Mammoth Lakes the Rough fire exploded on Thursday and is causing so much smoke out put that there is no way to escape it s grip until the fire backs down.   We expect to see periods of off and on smoke until we get some rain and or snow into the Sierra.   No sign of that happening in the next week to 10 days. We where expecting a big cool down this week, but you can cancel that as well.  It s going to be September until we get the real cool down we are waiting for. Current weather conditions: As of this post I have a temperature here at 8175 of 72, we have a 81 at the Mammoth Airport and a 77 at Footloose Sports.  Up at the Main Lodge it’s 68 and at the top of Mammoth Mountain it is

History of Mammoth Mountain Opening and Closing Dates | MammothSnowman.com

One of the main stats I have always loved to look at was the opening and closing dates overs the years at Mammoth Mountain. They used to included this information right in the history of Mammoth Mountain Snowfall chart but it got deleted when they updated that spread sheet a few years back. Below is a list of the open and closing dates we have at this time. At some point we will try to go forward and back in time to complete this entire list. I will put a call into Dave MC Coy, maybe he has it written down for the real early days of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. As a added bonus we have a desktop screen shot of the old snowfall history for Mammoth Mountain that included the dates we have listed below for you. Enjoy the information and I look forward to meeting you out on the slopes of Mammoth Mountain.

Mammoth Lakes & Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast

8-11-2015 – 7:10 AM – Good morning everyone we have very smokey skies in the area from smoke that is coming from the rough fire. PM 10 counts are above 100 this morning. It would be a good morning to curtail aerobic work outs. If your sensitive to smoke, we would advise you to stay inside or leave the area as we expect this moderate smoke to be with us the next few days. We are hoping by the weekend things will clear out. Right now the Rough fire has zero containment so we will wait and see what happens. Of course there will be an update later today on the smoke. Current weather conditions: As of this post I have a temperature here at 8175 of 51, up at the Main Lodge it’s 49 and at the top of Mammoth Mountain it is 48. Winds are 0-3 in town, WSW 20-25 MPH at Main Lodge and over the higher elevations winds are out of the SSW @ 25-34 MPH this morning.

Hawaii Just Got Hit By A July Snow Storm | MammothSnowman.com

August 2nd, 2015 – by Chloe Fox – July snowstorms are weird enough. July snowstorms in Hawaii boggle the mind. But that’s what happened at the summit of Mauna Kea on Hawaii’s Big Island on Friday morning. The combination of passing thunderstorms and near-freezing temperatures led to 1.5 inches of snow and icy conditions, according to a ranger’s report.
